The DP World Lions cleaned up the last four World Sports Betting Western Province wickets for just three runs to seal a comfortable 125-run win in their CSA 4-Day Series match at DP World Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

Province basically needed a miracle to win after they reached lunch on the final day on 160/6, still needing another 157 runs to pull off what would have been a stunning comeback.

But in the end it wasn't to be as George Linde (29) and Onke Nyaku (33) briefly showed some fight, extending their seventh wicket partnership to 49 runs, before the Lions tore through the tail to seal the win.

Linde was first to fall after lunch, caught by Delano Potgieter off the bowling of Tshepo Moreki, with the score 188/7.

Having moved onto 191, Lutho Sipamla then cleaned up the tail in six balls, as he bowled Nyaku and had Mthiwekhaya Nabe and Jody Lawrence edging behind for ducks to end the game.

Moreki with 4/44, and Sipamla with 4/51 led the Lions second innings bowling effort.

Earlier in the match the Lions batted first and managed 403/6 declared in their first innings, with Province responding with 208 all out, a deficit of 195-runs, before the hosts allowed them back into the game by being skittled for 121 in their second innings, to set the visitors 317 to win.

Province then reached the close of play on day three on 88/3, but got off to a bitterly poor start on the final day’s morning session as Bongi Mfunelwa (8) was bowled by Moreki and Eddie Moore (34) was trapped LBW by Codi Yusuf, as they slipped to 92/5.

Linde and Mihlali Mpongwana (25) tried to rebuild with a 47-run sixth wicket stand, before Mpongwana was caught by Zubayr Hamza off the bowling of Sipamla, leaving them on 139/6.

Linde and Nyaku then took their side to lunch, but were unable kick on in the afternoon and produce a big stand to get them within range, as they fell well short in the end.
