Faf du Plessis struck a half-century and Jonny Bairstow clubbed an unbeaten 43 as the Joburg Super Kings posted 172 for five against MI Cape Town in a Betway SA20 clash at World Sports Betting Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday afternoon.

Captain Du Plessis struck six boundaries and three maximums in his 61 from 38 balls, sharing in an opening stand of 97 with Devon Conway (35) after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Conway, who struck four boundaries in his 31-ball knock, laid the perfect foundation for the visitors as the pair raised their 50-run stand from just 35 deliveries.

However, it was the introduction of Corbin Bosch (3-0-24-1) that broke the stand and opened the door for the home side to come back into the innings.

With Du Plessis in full flight, and having gone past 11 000 T20-career runs, Bosch had the JSK captain launching down towards long-off but only into the grateful hands of his opposite number, Rashid Khan.

The very next over saw Khan introduce the unlikely off-spin of Reeza Hendricks (2-0-7-2).

Hendricks was unlucky not to claim a wicket with his first delivery as Dewald Brevis put Conway down at long-off.

However, the miss did not cost much as just a few balls later, Hendricks would have his man, stumped by wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton.

Hendricks would pick up his second scalp of the afternoon, as Wihan Lubbe (0) drove straight to Brevis at short extra-cover.

Leus du Plooy (5) lasted just seven deliveries before offering Rashid his second catch of the day at long-off, from the bowling of George Linde (4-0-39-1).

Donovan Ferreira cracked two fours and a six from 11 balls before being brilliantly outsmarted by Rashid (4-0-33-1), as he came dancing down the wicket, only to be stumped by Rickelton.

Despite the loss of some wickets to peg the visitors back, Bairstow showed his experience, cracking two fours and four sixes from 27 balls to help his side to a competitive total.

Trent Boult struggled to find some rhythm, conceding three fours and as many sixes in conceding 42 runs from his four overs while Kagiso Rabada managed just three overs for 23 runs.
