The Vodacom Bulls have been hit by a massive blow with the news that Springbok lock RG Snyman will miss two months of Super Rugby with an ankle injury.

Snyman, who returned from Japan on the weekend, injured his ankle while playing in Japan for his club Honda Heat and will undergo surgery on Tuesday morning.

The big lock, who stands a massive 2.07m tall, underwent scans at a specialist on Monday morning where the bad news was revealed.

“The scans revealed the injury to his ankle was much worst than anticipated and he will have to undergo surgery on Tuesday,” team doctor Herman Rossouw said.

“It will mean he will be on the sidelines for an eight-week period.”

The Bulls have already been hit by several injuries and are already thin at tighthead prop, hooker and flyhalf.

Springboks Marnitz Boshoff and Marco van Staden are both injured and only set to return at the end of March, while hookers Edgar Marutlulle (Achilles) and Jaco Visagie (ankle) are also out. Visagie is expected to be back in six weeks' time.

Some good news came the Bulls way on Monday when Springbok winger Travis Ismaiel heard that a revision of his shoulder injury means an eight-week stint on the sideline as opposed to the original diagnosis of three months.

The Bulls have offered former Sharks utility Garth April a contract on the basis of passing a medical. April injured his shoulder in his last game in Japan and was due to see specialists in Pretoria on Monday but no finality had been received as yet.
