Stellenbosch FC will only have themselves to blame if they fail to win the 2023 DStv Diski Challenge title.

The Winelands-based outfit are currently leading the table with 63 points gathered from 28 matches.

They need four points, a win and a draw, in their remaining two matches to lift the title. On paper, it looks easy to get those points as they will play against Moroka Swallows, one of the weakest teams in the competition, before facing Golden Arrows on the final day.

But it is football, and it is never over until the final whistle.

On Sunday, Stellies made easy work out of Kaizer Chiefs, thrashing them 3-0 at Idas Valley Stadium.

Thulani Mini was impressive on the day as he netted a brace and provided an assist for Mervin Boji’s goal.

Mini, who scored a hat-trick last weekend, has scored 12 goals this season. His form has proven to be vital in the title run-in.

Stellenbosch are three points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who are still in the race. Meanwhile, Sundowns need to win both remaining matches and hope Stellenbosch lose at least one game or play out two draws for them to win the title.

In other Diski Challenge weekend matches, Sundowns thumped Royal AM 3-0 on Saturday, while Orlando Pirates defeated Richards Bay FC 4-2.
