Cape Town City have added veteran former Bafana Bafana midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season, their ninth signing of a busy transfer window for Eric Tinkler’s side.

The vastly experienced Mokotjo, 33, arrived as a free agent after leaving Sekhukhune United at the end of the last campaign, where he made exactly 50 appearances in 18 months at the club.

He will bring with him the knowledge from spells in the Netherlands with Feyenoord, PEC Zwolle and FC Twente, England with Brentford and Major League Soccer in the United States with FC Cincinnati.

Mokotjo, considered one of the best midfielders of his generation in South Africa, won the last of his 24 Bafana Bafana caps in 2020 and it will forever remain a mystery why he did not play more.

City have already unveiled Angolan midfielder Carlinhos, Hasheem Domingo from Raja Casablanca in Morocco, Kayden Francis from Chippa United, Fortune Makaringe from Orlando Pirates, Namibian international Prince Tjiueza, goalkeeper Elson Sithole from Magesi FC, defender Sibusiso Ziba from JDR Stars and youngster Lefa Aphane from Tzaneen United.

The club have sold Brice Ambina to Valerenga in Norway and released another Angolan, Jo Paciencia, Khanya Leshabela, Relebogile Mokhuoane and back-up goalkeeper Bongani Mpandle.

Thabiso Kutumela’s loan spell came to an end and he returned to Mamelodi Sundowns, where he was subsequently released and is currently a free agent.
