Major local club hockey tournament available on Schools app
From Thursday, 4 July, until Saturday, 6 July, Durban will again play host to the annual Belgotex Elite Club Challenge (BECC), hosted by Riverside Hockey Club at Riverside Sports.
All the action will be available on the SuperSport Schools app, available from the Android and iOS app stores. The app is free to use and makes available content covering many schools and sports.
This year marks the event’s 10th year with the popular tournament having grown in stature to be the largest, elite club-based hockey tournament in South Africa with the largest prize money of R30 000 going to the winning men’s and ladies’ teams.
CALENDAR HIGHLIGHT
What began in 2013 as a modest gathering of four prominent clubs (with only two years being interrupted by Covid-19), this event has blossomed into a SA Hockey calendar highlight featuring 16 top-performing men’s and women’s teams from across KwaZulu Natal, Gauteng, and the Western Cape.
Adding to this year's main event is an additional qualifying section that will see four men’s and four ladies’ teams battle it out to claim a spot in next year’s BECC finals event, which will replace the team that finishes 8th on the log in the 2024 event.
Some 24 teams and nearly 500 participants will be participating in the event this year, showcasing South Africa's most successful and sustainable clubs battling it out on two world-class Belgotex Sport turfs for the largest prize money on the SA hockey circuit and the title of BECC champions.
Along with these stellar on-field performances, spectators will enjoy an array of food and drink offerings, music and fun activations to keep the whole family entertained from morning until night!
