Keeping their promotion hopes alive, South Africa and Zimbabwe finished top of their groups at the Davis Cup Africa Group III tournament hosted at TuksTennis, University of Pretoria on Friday.

Competing in their last round-robin match, the SA team picked up their third win of the tournament against Togo, going unbeaten to finish top of Group A.

"I've learned so much from the team this week and every day has just been getting better and better for me to be here with the guys," said 17-year-old Leo Matthysen, who made his Davis Cup debut when he paired up with Christiaan Worst to win the doubles match against Togo, wrapping up a 3-0 victory.

"It was a very good experience for me to win my first match, and it's really amazing to help my team a little bit," Matthysen said.

"We're a very young team and I think it's amazing what we've done so far."

National captain Christo van Rensburg was pleased with the squad's overall performance at the continental showpiece.

"We played really well. We won all our matches today and we lost only one singles match (in the round robin stage). It was amazing, the team is feeling good and we are looking forward to our last fixture of the tournament."

South Africa will play Group B winners Zimbabwe in the final of the Davis Cup Africa Group III tournament on Saturday, with both teams having already progressed to next year's World Group II playoffs.

Togo and Benin, who finished second in each of the round robin groups, will square off for the third and final spot in the World Group II promotion playoffs.
