Magesi will be hoping to finally break their winless streak in the Betway Premiership when they go up against a resurgent AmaZulu at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Kick-off is at 3:30pm CAT (SA, GMT+2)

CURRENT FORM

Magesi’s last three league matches saw them only pick up one point, which was in their most recent game against TS Galaxy which ended in a goalless draw.

Dikwena tsa Meetse lost two matches 1-0 to SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates respectively. Their poor run of results has found them now rooted to the bottom of the Betway Premiership standings.

AmaZulu were in the same position at the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign, however they managed to pull themselves out of danger.

Still in a tricky position in 12th though, Usuthu lost their most recent league match 2-0 against Sekhukhune United.

Prior to that result, they played to a goalless draw in the KZN derby against Golden Arrows and defeated Cape Town City 1-0.

WHAT WAS SAID

Magesi recently appointed experienced coach Owen da Gama following the unexpected resignation of Clinton Larsen on national television.

The 63-year-old is eager to prove that his methods still work as he’s tasked with helping the team stay in the Betway Premiership.

"As I said I'm trying to pick up everybody, everybody is important in this team and if we can get Gift Motupa right, we get Sekgota [Kgaogelo] right to be where they are supposed to be at their maximum operations levels, I think it will help the team a lot but I think we've got some really good players,” says da Gama.

“I was happy with Makhubu [Wonderboy], I'm happy with Baloyi [Bafedile]. I think that are a few other strikers that are available. So, it's just a matter of assessing all the players and creating healthy competition there."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Elvis Chipezeze — The goalkeeper has pulled off some stellar saves this season and has helped Dikwena tsa Meetse to avoid embarrassing scorelines in recent games. A clean sheet for the player will be vital to continue the team’s charge of staying in the top-flight.
