South Africa’s Sikho “Sequence” Nqothole put in a fine performance to win on a 12-round unanimous points decision over previously unbeaten Filipino, Denmark Abecia Quibido on Thursday night at the Galleria Conference Centre in Sandton, Johannesburg, to win the vacant WBO Global junior bantamweight title.

Judges Pumeza Zinakile and Jaap van Niewenhuizen both scored the fight 120-106 and judge Patrick Mukondiwa’s had it 117-111.

Nqothole, 28, from Mthatha came out fast at the opening bell and took control of the fight, pushing out his educated left hand to outscore Quibido.

This was the pattern throughout as the South Africa controlled the fight against the 26-year-old southpaw Quibido, who had no answer to the faster Nqothole.

Nqothole improved his record to 16-2; 10 and Quibido’s record dropped to 12-1-1; 7.

JABULANI MAKHENSE WINS IBF TITLE

In a poor fight, with both fighters pushing and mauling throughout, South Africa’s Jabulani Makhense won the vacant IBF Continental Africa welterweight title on a 12-round unanimous points decision over Henriques Lando from Angola.

Makhense was a clear winner, but he would be well advised to stop his poor attempts at clowning in the ring as he is a better fighter than what we saw on Thursday night.

The scores were 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111.
