Triple ton De Zorzi inspires WP victory, comfortable win for Warriors

KNIGHTS V WP - TRIPLE TON DE ZORZI INSPIRES WP TO EMPHATIC WIN

A Tony de Zorzi-inspired led the Six Gun Grill Western Province to an innings and 155-run victory on day three of the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series match against the ITEC Knights at Six Gun Grill Newlands.on Saturday.

The hosts just needed nine wickets to clinch the emphatic victory despite a fighting century by Knights batter Raynard van Tonder.

Starting the day on 34/1, a 121-run partnership formed between Van Tonder and skipper Pite van Biljon before Aviwe Mgijima (1-21) trapped Van Biljon for 71 off 142 balls (hitting 11 fours).

Van Tonder brought up his seventh first-class century as he made 117 off 220 balls (hitting 14 fours and two sixes) and fell to seamer Dane Paterson.

From then, wickets fell regularly shortly afterwards, with Paterson being the pick of the Western Province bowling attack as he took 3-48.

The Knights were all out for 309. However, the match saw WP opener De Zorzi stake his claim as he produced a record-breaking triple-century in Cape Town.

De Zorzi scored a stunning unbeaten 304 off 381 balls (hitting 28 fours and seven sixes) as the hosts declared on 575/7 with a lead of 464 runs.

De Zorzi's innings became the highest individual first-class score in Newlands history.

WARRIORS V DRAGONS - BREETZKE CLASS SEES WARRIORS TO VICTORY

The Dafabet Warriors continued their winning ways in the 4-Day Franchise Series as the hosts claimed a comfortable 239-run victory on day three against the North West Dragons at St George's Park on Saturday.

Proteas allrounder Marco Jansen grabbed 3-40 as the North West Dragons were bowled out for 203.

Renaldo Meyer top-scored with a quick-fire 42 off 16 balls for the Dragons.

But the entire match in Gqeberha belonged to Warriors batter Matthew Breetzke, who scored an unbeaten 112 and then scored 91 off 143 balls.

Following Breetzke's dismissal, the Warriors declared with a 422-run lead, and the Dragons were nowhere close to chasing the target against an in-form host attack.

The Warriors remain on top of the 4-Day Franchise Series standings as they've won all three encounters ahead of the festive break.


LIONS V TITANS - TITANS INCH CLOSER TO VICTORY AFTER HARMER'S BRILLIANCE

The Momentum Multiply Titans are on the verge of victory against the DP World Lions as they need to chase 44 runs to win at stumps on day three of the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series encounter at a cloudy DP World Wanderers on Saturday.

Proteas test spinner Simon Harmer captured his second consecutive seven-wicket haul as the Lions crumbled and were effectively bowled out for 139.

Earlier in the day, De Bruyn smashed 101 off 94 balls (hitting 14 fours and 2 sixes) before part-timer Reeza Hendricks got the edge behind to Ryan Rickelton.

Heinrich Klaasen slapped 69 off 75 balls before he was bowled by Duanne Olivier, who took3-62 with the Titans all out for 449 - leading by 95 runs.

But the Lions couldn't get on top of Harmer, who took wickets at regular intervals and walked away with handsome figures of 7-68.

Lizaad Williams, who received a late Proteas call-up for the Australian test tour, took 3-34.

The Titans will look for a quick and easy win on the final day on Sunday, with play scheduled to start at 10am CAT (SA, GMT+2).


DOLPHINS V ROCKS - PLAY WASHED OUT AT KINGSMEAD

Day 3 was abandoned without a ball being bowled of the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series encounter between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and Gbets Rocks at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead on Saturday.

Persistent rain saw play halted as the Dolphins remain on 135/7 and lead by 76 runs.

On Friday, rain also proved to be a nuisance as the Dolphins could only add 59 runs to their overnight score, with Proteas test opener Sarel Erwee bringing up a half-century.

Erwee scored 76 off 146 balls (hitting 10 fours) before he fell to Shaun Von Berg, who sits on figures of 3-56.

Jason Smith remained on 23 not out alongside fellow Dolphins allrounder Andile Phehlukwayo on one not out.
