Surprise Moriri admits Mamelodi Sundowns “need to be more clinical” as they prepare for a tricky encounter against Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Diski Shield.

Sundowns host Amakhosi Reserves in the last four of the Diski Shield on Saturday at Giant Stadium.

The kick-off is at 12h30 (CAT).

Sundowns will be gunning some for revenge as they lost the Diski Shield final to Amakhosi in 2018.

That was followed by another disappointing final loss when they were beaten by Golden Arrows the following year.

Moriri said: “We really have to work hard and make sure that we win this Diski shield.”

“There are things we can improve on and we’re looking to improve going into the game. We want to go into this (Chiefs) game and put on a really big performance. They’re a great side, so it will be a tough game.”

Moriri continued: “One aspect that needs more effort is upfront. Converting our chances, I think we should do better in that department, but we will be ready for them. We know what happened the last time we played them in the Diski Shield but that is in the past.”

Sundowns defeated Orlando Pirates 2-1 to reach the last four of the competition, while Amakhosi thumped SuperSport United 4-2 on Sunday.

In the other semifinal, Chippa United will take on League Champions Stellenbosch FC at 10h00.

Stellies defeated plucky Maritzburg United 2-1 to reach the last four while their opponents, Chippa edged TS Galaxy 1-0.

The winners of the semis will meet in the final next Saturday 23 July at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale.

The Diski Shield made its return this year after a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The tournament was first introduced in 2018 as an expansion of the then 15-match-per-season DStv Diski Challenge.

The winner’s prize money (R 200 000) will be donated towards a football development initiative for a local community.
