Dire Dawa beat Ethiopian Insurance 2-1 on Thursday, while Bahir Dar City's quest to make a move in the Ethiopia Premier League standings came unstuck after they were held to a goalless draw by a determined Hambericho.
Charles Muslige opened the scoring for Dire Dawa in the fifth minute to give them a 1-0 lead over Ethiopian Insurance.
Carlos Demtew made it 2-0 in the 40th minute and Dire Dawa went into the halftime break with a two-goal advantage.
Ethiopian Insurance were first off the block in the second half as Wogene Gezahegn found the net in the 49th minute, but it wasn't enough as the match ended 2-1 in Dire Dawa's favour.
Hambericho Durame, meanwhile, will be happy with the point they earned on the day, as it is a rare addition to their scant numbers this season that have kept them and fellow strugglers Shashemene City at the bottom of the log.
Bahir Dar City, on the other hand, would see this as a missed opportunity to continue their push up the log from their current third sport.
A win would have taken their points haul to 22, just one point behind Ethiopian Nigd and Mekelakeya on 23 points in first and second place respectively.
