Ethiopian Premier League disciplines players

The Betking Ethiopian Premier League on Thursday announced sanctions for the just concluded Week 17 games where seven games ended in wins and one in a draw. In total 21 goals were scored by 18 players.

The 21 goals included two which were scored direct from free kicks while the rest were scored from open play.

During the week, 38 players and team leaders were reprimanded with yellow cards and two players saw red.

The Ethiopian Premier League Competition Leadership and Etiquette Committee held a meeting on Wednesday, 5 April, after examining the disciplinary report submitted by the referees and observers of the Ethiopian Premier League match(s) and passed the following decisions.

Emanuel Yohannes (Ethiopia Coffee), who received a red card and was sent, has been suspended for one game due to a second yellow-card offence.

Habib Mohammed (Ethiopia Insurance) received a yellow card in five different games, and according to the disciplinary guidelines of the EFF, it was decided that he should be suspended for one game and fined Birr 1 500.

Kofi Menseh (Legetafo LeGedadi) was charged for insulting the referee and received a red card and was removed from the field of play. He has been banned for six matches and fined 6000 Birr.

Adugna Tsagaye (Sidama Coffee) was reported for breaking the glass in the technical area, so the player was ordered to pay Birr 10 000 for the damage he caused.

Furthermore, a report was submitted about Ethiopian Insurance fans insulting the referee of the day. The club has been order to pay Birr 50 000.
