Fasil, Hawassa, Wolaitta Dicha and Sidama chase St George

The BetKing Ethiopia Premier League title chase is heating up with five teams still in the running for glory.

St George top the standings with 44 points and enjoy a handy lead over the chasing pack -- Fasil City (34) Hawassa City (34), Wolaitta Dicha (34) and Sidama Coffee (33).

It is interesting to see just how tight the race has become, but with St George unbeaten so far this season it is looking more like a battle for second place. However, there are still 30 points to play for, so anything can happen.

Fasil have been hovering between fourth and sixth spot over the past six weeks, but suddenly burst to life with a narrow but crucial 1-0 win over Arbaminch City to shoot up to second position on the league table.

All four teams have had an indifferent run of form with Hawassa and Sidama losing their last games, which provided the window for Fasil to pounce.

In all of the permutations, two teams outside of the top five have been gaining ground -- Hadiya Hossana, who are unbeaten in their last five games and currently sixth with 28 points, and Ethiopia Coffee who have lost one match.

Both of them will seek to keep their winning intact, so the home stretch will be interesting to say the least.

St George have been looking like the odds on favourite for the title but defending champions Fasil have shown their winning edge with their recent resurgence, especially with Mujib Kassim’s return and Okiki Afolabi’s goals, while Sidama have a master marksman in Saladhin Said.

Can any of them stop the “Horsemen” from galloping away with the title?
