Denys Berinchyk wins WBO lightweight title

Denys Berinchyk, 19-0; 9 won the vacant WBO lightweight title on a 12-round split decision against three-division world champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete, 38-2-1; 31 on Saturday night at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California. In an untidy fight, Berinchyk did just enough to win with scores of 116-112 and 115-113 on two cards.

Brian Norman stops Giovanni Santillan in tenth round

WBO No 10 rated welterweight Brian Norman Jr. 26-0; 20 won on a tenth-round knockout over the WBO No 1 rated Giovani Santillan 32-1; 17 to take the vacant WBO interim welterweight world title on Saturday night at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California. Norman was in control and dominated before scoring two knockdowns in the tenth round to end it.

Peter Khamukov retains NBA Middleweight title

Middleweight Petr Khamukov, 13-0; 6 from Woodland Hills, California, retained his (NBA) National Boxing Association with a third-round stoppage against Esau Herrera de la Cruz, 21-17-1; 8 from Mexico City, at the Fox Theater in Redwood, California. The time was 1:28.

In a welterweight bout, Jacob Macalooy, 8-0, 4 from San Diego, CA., won on a six-round unanimous points decision against Xavier Madrid, 5-4; 2 of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The scores were 60-54 on all three judges’ scorecards.

Richard Torrez Jr. wins on fifth-round stoppage

2020 Olympic heavyweight silver medalist Richard Torrez Jr., 10-0; 10 from Tulare, California, won on a fifth-round stoppage against Brandon Moore, 14-1; 8 on Saturday night at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California. Torrez scored a knockdown early in the fifth round but finished the fight off at 1:19 into the round when the referee, Thomas Taylor, stopped the fight.

Junior welterweight Emiliano Vargas, 10-0, 8 from Las Vegas, won on a sixth stoppage against Angel Varela, 10-3; 7 of Sonora, Mexico. The time was 1:01.

Jai Opetaia wins vacant IBF Cruiserweight title

In a rematch for the vacant IBF cruiserweight title, Jai Opetaia 25-0; 19 regained the IBF cruiserweight title against Mairis Briedis 28-3; 20 on Saturday night on a unanimous 12 round points decision at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Opetaia was in control through the first five rounds and broke the 39-year-old Briedis’ nose with a left hook in the sixth round. The scores were 117-111, 116-112, and 116-112.

Opetaia had won the IBF belt against Briedis two years ago but was forced to vacate the title to take a Saudi money fight rather than fighting the injured Briedis in a rematch.

Anthony Cacare wins IBF Junior Lightweight title

Anthony Cacace 22-1; 8 won on an eighth-round technical knockout over Joe Cordina, 17-1; 9 on Saturday night at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to win the IBF junior lightweight title. In the third round, the 35-year-old Cacace hit Cordina on a break and knocked him down soon afterwards. Cordina recovered but Cacace went on to score the stoppage in round eight after the referee waved the fight off. The time was 0:39.

Agit Kabayel wins WBC Heavyweight eliminator

In a WBC heavyweight eliminator, No 3 rated Agit Kabayel 25-0; 17 won on a seventh-round knockout against WBC No 2 Frank Sanchez 24-1; 17 on Saturday night at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Kabayel was in control from the opening bell before he sent Sanchez down twice at 2:33 into the seventh round.

Robin Safari wins against former Light Heavyweight champion

WBO No 15 cruiserweight Robin Safar, 17-0; 12 won on a ten-round unanimous points decision over former unified light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, 35-5-1; 29 on Saturday night at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Coming back after two years, the 41-year-old Kovalev appeared to be a shadow of his former self. Safar dropped him just before the bell to end the fight. The scores were 97-92, 99-90, and 95-94.

Heavyweight Moses Itauma 9-0; 7 stopped Ilja Mezencev 25-4; 21 at 50 seconds into round two to take the WBO Intercontinental belt.

WBC No 10 rated Mark Chamberlain 16-0; 12 stopped Joshua Oluwaseun Wahab 23-2; 16 at 2:42 into the first round to win the WBC Silver Lightweight title.
