Cosmos, Spurs struggles continue in GladAfrica

Former top-flight clubs Jomo Cosmos and Cape Town Spurs continued their struggles in the GladAfrica Championship as they recorded defeats on matchday four.

Cosmos remain winless this season after succumbing to a 2-1 defeat to an unbeaten Hungry Lions side away with Cleopas Dube scoring the visitors' consolation goal on Saturday.

While Spurs are also winless this term having suffered a 1-0 loss to promotion hopefuls, Uthongathi FC at home with Francis Baloyi scoring the only goal of the match in the first-half on Friday.

Black Leopards returned back to winning ways when they claimed a 2-0 victory over Richards Bay in another game which was played on Friday with Mathaba Lethabo and Tiklas Thutlwa scoring.

The action continued on Saturday with log leaders Platinum City Rovers being held to a 0-0 draw by Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, who extended their winless run to three games.

Rovers are two points clear of second-placed Lions and third-placed Uthongathi on the league standings as the battle to secure automatic promotion to the elite league continues.

Fourth-placed TS Sporting missed an opportunity to climb up the standings when they were held to a 0-0 draw by a stubborn University of Pretoria side.

Pretoria's Gauteng rivals, JDR Stars succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Cape Town All Stars, who registered their second win of the season thanks to Thabo Makhele's goal.

The Limpopo Derby encounter between Venda FC and Polokwane City ended in a 0-0 draw in one of the two matches which were played on Sunday.

While a first-half goal from Moeketsi Sekola inspired Free State Stars to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Pretoria Callies, who remain 16th on the league standings.
