Stern Baroka test await motivated Callies
After bagging their first win in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last week, Pretoria Callies will host high-flying Baroka FC at the TUT Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
In kick-starting their 2023/24 campaign, Callies recorded a morale-boosting 3-1 away victory against Maritzburg United last week and subsequently jotted down their first win of the season. The victory saw Callies move up to 15th on the log, while Baroka went on to bag their fourth win in succession.
Following a convincing 4-1 win over La Masia, Baroka moved up to second on the table and are now two points behind log leaders Orbit College.
Orbit College will look to overcome their recent run of inconsistent results when they take on Casric Stars at the Giyani Stadium on Saturday. Orbit recorded three losses and two wins in their last five outings, as the likes of Baroka, Magesi and JDR Stars narrowed the gap at the summit of the league table.
Promotion-chasing JDR Stars will take on Hungry Lions in a mouthwatering clash at the Soshanguve Giant Stadium on Friday afternoon. As it stands, JDR Stars are currently four points adrift of the top spot, while Hungry Lions linger in sixth position, five points behind the log leaders Orbit College.
Elsewhere, bottom-of-the-log Milford and Platinum City Rovers will do battle at the Princess Magogo Stadium this weekend with both teams looking to steer away from the drop zone. Platinum City Rovers currently occupy 14th on the table, just one point ahead of their upcoming opponents.
