Orbit College suffered their second defeat of the 2023-24 Motsepe Foundation Championship, but remained top of the log after a full round of action over the weekend.

Orbit succumbed 0-1 at home to Venda FC at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with Rotondwa Mutsivhuli scoring the only goal of the game in injury time at the end of the first half.

The Mswenkyo Boys continue to lead the standings with 19 points from nine matches, with Hungry Lions and JDR Stars tied in second spot on 16 points. Lions were in action on Sunday, needing a late equaliser from the spot by Pitso Tlotlego to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Pretoria Callies.

Stars, meanwhile, were 1-0 winners away to Maritzburg United at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Friday – thanks to a late strike from Prince Nxumalo – while the other match on the day brought a 1-1 draw between Marumo Gallants and Baroka FC at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

Saturday also saw Platinum City Rovers and NB La Masia draw 1-1 at the Isak Steyl Stadium, Black Leopards trumped Milford FC in Thohoyandou, and Upington City put a dent in Magesi FC’s hopes of a rise to second spot with a 2-0 win at GWK Park – courtesy of goals from Trevor Mokwena and Keletso Makgalwa.

Sunday’s other match saw a 1-0 away win for Casric Stars over University of Pretoria at the TUKS Stadium, with Lebohang Lesako scoring the only goal midway through the second half.

The MFC will resume with a full slate of midweek fixtures on Tuesday 31 October and Wednesday 1 November
