Blades blunted following relegation from MTN Super League
Konkola Blades became the fourth club to be relegated from the MTN Super League on Saturday despite winning their final game of the campaign as other results went against them.
Blades will join Trident FC, Kansanshi Dynamos and Prison Leopards in the second-tier next season, despite their 2-1 success at Leopards ion the final day.
Erick Ettiene scored a first half brace for the visitors and Maxillian Elimbi pulled one back for Leopards, as Blades finish a point behind 14th-placed NAPSA Stars.
Stars got that point with a 1-1 home draw against Power Dynamos as they took the lead through Dickson Chapa’s early penalty. Jacob Kaunda equalised for third-placed Dynamos with 14 minutes left on the clock.
Champions Red Arrows ended their campaign with a 1-0 win at Mutondo Stars thanks to Yusuf Phiri’s strike a minute before the break. They finish a full 12 points clear of second-placed ZESCO United.
The latter were 2-0 losers at Mufulira Wanderers as Tresor Ilunga and Mukuka Kafula scored for the home side.
Kabwe Warriors climbed to fourth with a 1-0 win at FC MUZA thanks to a goal from Akakulubelwa Mwachiaba, while Nkana FC and ZANACO played to a goalless draw.
Forest Rangers started the day just three points above the relegation zone but a thumping 4-0 success over relegated Kansanshi Dynamos saw them end in 10th.
Quadri Kola (two), Dieugo Apanane and Lazarous Chishimba were the scorers.
Nkwazi were 2-1 winners at home to Green Eagles as they scored twice in the final eight minutes through Misheck Luwisha and Brian Masanyinga. Hosea Silwimba had given Eagles a first half lead.
Finally, bottom side Trident came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw at home to Green Buffaloes. Chilimba Moonga gave the latter the lead, before Ceaser Hakaluba equalised with 12 minutes remaining.
