Hawassa face St George, Birarar target Wolkite
St George go into their Week 8 Ethiopian Premier League fixture on Thursday looking to reclaim top spot, while Mekelakeya hope to consolidate against Wolkite City.
The action returns to the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium where all league matches have been played so far this season.
In the first match of the day, two-time league champions Hawassa City will play host to the defending and 16-times Ethiopia Premier League champions, St George.
Hawassa City were defeated for the second consecutive match in the season by Bahir Dar City.
Hawassa started the season in good defensive form, as they didn't concede any goals from the second to fourth week, but they seem to have imploded in their last two matches, conceding five goals.
Hawassa coach Zereay Mulu has his work cut out to get his attacking players to produce goals on the other end, especially Mujib Kassim and will be hoping for good deliveries from Tafesse Solomon and Ali Suleyman.
St George, on the other hand, will be eager to get back to action and winning ways after seeing their Week 7 Sheger Derby fixture against Ethiopia Coffee postponed.
"The Horsemen" were defeated 1-2 in theirWweek 6 game by Bahir Dar City.
St George have yet to lose back-to-back games under the reign of coach Zerihun Shengeta, and are currently ranked fourth on the log with 13 points.
Mosses Odo will start a four-match ban for St George on Thursday.
Wolkite City and Mekelakeya face each other in the other match of the day, with Mekelakeya coach Gebrekirstos Birara facing his former team Wolkite City.
Wolkite City are on a good run, winning their last two matches after five winless matches.
The good thing for Mulugeta Mihret's team is they managed to keep clean sheets in those two matches.
Mekelakeya are in second place, one point behind the leaders.
They won their last four matches with three of them producing clean sheets.
They will go back top of the table if they get all three points.
