Following a tough battle at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Tuesday night, SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in their latest DStv Premiership assignment.

While SuperSport thought they had grabbed the winner through Bradley Grobler’s effort in the 87th minute, Chibuike Ohizu had other ideas as his calm equaliser in the 89th minute spoiled the party for Matsatsantsa.

The game commenced at a timid pace with SuperSport United applying pressure early on, while Sekhukhune looked to establish their passing rhythm from defensive positions.

Onismor Bhasera produced SuperSport’s first-attempt at goal in the 12th minute, as the defender’s shot was blocked on the edge of the Babina Noko area.

Sekhukhune grew into the game midway through the first half as Kamohelo Mokotjo came close to opening the scoring in the 20th minute with a right-footed shot from outside the area.

As Mokotjo’s effort whistled past Badra Sangare’s goal, Terrence Dzvukamanja threatened at the other end of the pitch.

Babina Noko continued to see more of the ball as the half progressed while Ohizu registered an attempt at goal in the 27th minute which went narrowly wide of the target.

As one of the few attempts of the half for SSU, Grobler had a left-footed shot from outside the box saved shortly before the half-hour mark.

Nonetheless, neither side created any notable scoring opportunities toward the halftime break as the referee called time on the first 45 with the score tied at 0-0.

OHIZU SAVES SEKHUKHUNE

Sekhukhune United commenced the second half on a bright note as they likes of Elias Mokwana and Linda Mntambo troubled the SuperSport backline.

With Babina Noko pushing high up the pitch, SuperSport were thus reduced to hitting the travelling side on the break.

In response to Sekhukhune’s pressure, Ime Okon and Grobler both provided headed efforts at goal en-route to the hour-mark but were unable to make the most of their scoring opportunities.

However, Lehlohonolo Seema’s side remained the more progressive side regarding the ball possession count and actively searched for an opener.

SuperSport then took the lead in the 87th minute as Grobler got his name on the scoresheet.

After making their way into the Sekhukhune area, Tendamudzimu Matodzi picked out the veteran forward who guided the ball home from close range.

Matsatsantsa’s lead lasted just two minutes as Ohizu levelled matters in the 89th minute via a left-footed shot from the centre of the goal after latching onto Rally Bwalya’s pass inside the area.
