Razgatioglu wins Imola Superpole Race 2
The Toprak Razgatioglu show continued as the Turkish rider did the double in Race 2 of Sunday's WSBK Imola Superpole Race.
As was the case in the last two races, Razgatioglu was overtaken at turn one by Alvaro Bautista and Andrea Locatelli but the Turkish rider regained his lead into the next turn after Bautista lost the front end of his Panigale V4.R. in a rare mistake from the championship leader.
Locatelli made a mistake going into the final corner of lap three, allowing Bassani to zoom past Jonathan Rea and the Italian. Bassani was making up ground on Razgatioglu and made the shock overtake with a lunge into turn five.
This revved the Yamaha rider up and he hit back with a marvellous lap which took him to within two-tenths by the end of lap nine. Closing in on Locatelli for fourth spot, Alex Lowes crashed out with just four laps to go.
Meanwhile, Bassani was hanging on by the skin of his teeth and his stubborn resilience was finally broken at turn 18 by Razgatioglu, who claimed his first feature race win of the year and fourth in total.
