Red Arrows can sew up MTN Super League this weekend
Red Arrows could be crowned MTN Super League winners this weekend if they beat Kansanshi Dynamos at home, ZESCO United fail to get a point at in-form Nkana FC and FC MUZA don’t beat Power Dynamos on Saturday.
Arrows have a 10-point lead over ZESCO with five games to play and could take an unassailable 13-point advantage if they win and the other result goes their way.
It seems inevitable they will be champions this season, repeating their triumph of 2021-22 and claiming a third title in the club’s history, whether it be this weekend or next month.
Arrows have now won 11 of their last 13 Super League matches, their run only blemished by a 0-0 home draw with Mufulira Wanderers and a stalemate by the same scoreline against Green Buffaloes last weekend.
They have only conceded two goals in that run and none in their last 10 games, the most extraordinary defensive run.
Dynamos claimed a first victory in nine games (D2 L6) last time out against Zanaco and are in serious need of another victory to assist them in their battle against relegation. They have not won away in almost a year.
ZESCO have seen their championship challenge falter after taking only three points from their last four games (D3 L1) and come up against a Nkana side who have shot up to ninth in the table on the back of just a single defeat in their last nine matches (W5 D3).
Their relegation concerns look well and truly over after spending much of the season in the drop zone. They host old foes ZESCO and with three wins apiece in the last six meetings between the two sides, there is no much to choose between them.
Champions Power Dynamos know their chances are retaining their title are gone, but they are only three points behind ZESCO in second place and that remains an ambition.
FC MUZA can mathematically still win the league and have a game in hand on their rivals, but two defeats in consecutive matches means there is no realistic hope.
Dynamos have two wins to go with three draws in the five past meetings between the clubs.
In other games on Saturday, NAPSA Stars need a win to pull further clear of the relegation zone as they host Green Eagles, while Forest Rangers host Konkola Blades.
There are also three games on Sunday, Prison Leopards go to Mufulira Wanderers, Mutondo Stars welcome Green Buffaloes and Zanaco welcome Kabwe Warriors.
