Nkana get huge three points against rivals Power Dynamos
Nkana FC took a giant step towards MTN Super League safety with a 2-0 victory over Kitwe rivals Power Dynamos on Saturday, likely ending the latter’s faint hopes of retaining their title.
Austin Banda and Moussa Lemisa scored in either half for Nkana as they rose into the top half of the table and are now seven points clear of the relegation zone with five rounds to play, albeit they have played a game more than those in the bottom four.
Dynamos stay in third place and remain 12 points behind leaders Red Arrows with five games left, compared to the six Arrows have to play.
They may now view second place as a realistic target and are two points behind ZESCO United, who occupy that position.
In the other game played on Saturday, Nkwazi and Forest Rangers played to a 1-1 draw that really helps neither side.
Mathews Mashimikilo gave Nkwazi a seventh-minute lead, but Tiki Chiluba equalised shortly afterwards and there were no further goals.
Nkwazi are in fifth place and Rangers in eighth as their push for CAF club competition qualification next season flounders.
