Following a dramatic final gameweek in the 2023-24 Motsepe Foundation Championship, the University of Pretoria and Baroka secured their spots in the PSL promotion playoffs on Sunday afternoon.

AmaTuks and Baroka headed into their final encounter in second and third place respectively and finished the 2023-24 campaign in the PSL promotion playoff positions following their 1-1 draw at the Tuks Stadium.

Baroka took the lead moments before halftime as midfielder Khomotjo Lekoloane got his name on the scoresheet. However, AmaTuks attacker Thabang Sibanyoni managed to cancel out Lekoloane’s effort by scoring the equalising goal on the hour-mark.

Tuks and Baroka will take on either Richards Bay or Royal AM for a place in the 2024-25 DStv Premiership when the play-offs commence later this season.

Narrowly missing out on the opportunity to play in the play-offs, Maritzburg United finished one point off 3rd spot following their 2-1 win over JDR Stars at the Soshanguve Giant Stadium.

JDR Stars, who were likewise hoping to earn a PSL Promotion play-off placing, ended their campaign one point behind Baroka following their defeat to the Team of Choice.

Elsewhere, it was heartbreak for La Masia, who were officially relegated to the ABC Motsepe League following their 2-0 defeat against Black Leopards at the Thohoyandou Stadium.
