Chiefs, Stellies to face off in Diski Shield final
Stellenbosch FC will play against Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Diski Shield final.
The two sides defeated Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively to set a date in what promises to be a thrilling final in Durban.
Stellies and Chippa kicked off the proceedings at Giant Stadium in Soshanguve on Saturday morning.
Marven Boji's second-half goal from the penalty spot proved to be enough to send them to the final of the tournament.
Having already won the 2021-22 DStv Diski Challenge league title, Stellies are now on a verge of completing a rare double if they beat Chiefs next Saturday.
In the second match of the day between Downs and Chiefs, there were a lot of expectations, and the youngsters did not disappoint the spectators that came in numbers to support them.
The two teams made their intentions clear in the early stages of the match with both sides testing their respective goalkeepers.
As the first half went by, Chiefs were more dominant and they were rewarded in the 30th minute when Mduduzi Shabalala converted from a spot kick after being fouled in the box by Mohlala Makola.
Chiefs maintained their first-half lead and went to the break sitting in the driving seat.
In the second half, Sundowns tried to fight back but they could not crack Chiefs' defence that was well marshalled by Aden McCarthy.
Chiefs extended their lead in the 75th minute with a stunning goal by Wandile Duba which was his second goal in the Diski Shield having scored last week in the quarterfinal.
Sundowns pulled one back through Cassius Mailula but it was ruled offside. Amakhosi managed the game until the final minute to book their ticket to the final.
This will be Chiefs' second appearance in three seasons of the Diski Shield. In 2018 Amakhosi defeated Sundowns in the final to clinch the title.
