The Ethiopia Premier League title race will go to the wire after both challengers, CBE - Commercial Bank of Ethiopia otherwise known as Ethiopia Nigd Bank and Mekelakeya won on Sunday.

It was a day with three games with huge ramifications for both the title race and relegation positions.

Ethiopia Nigd Bank beat Shashemene City 2-0, and Mekelakeya defeated Adama City 3-0, with Wolkite City victorious in the third game, winning 2-0 against Hambericho.

Since both games were played simultaneously, Mekelakeya started on top with a goal as early as the 5th minute by Bereket Desta to give them a 1-0 lead and shoot them temporarily to the top of the table.

They were 2-0 up in the 21st minute through an Ahmed Reshid own goal, and looking like they were running away with the Commercial Bankers struggling to breakdown Hambericho for most of the first half.

However, Ethiopia Nigd did make their breakthrough late in the first half, as Suleiman Hamid's 40th minute goal gave them a 1-0 lead which they took to halftime back on top.

They will find a second goal just past the hour mark with the impressive Addis Gidey on target in the 63rd minute.

The 2-0 lead gave them wings even as Mekelakeya scored a 3rd goal through Shimless Bekele, but it will end 2-0 for the Bankers and 3-0 win for Mekelakeya.

Ethiopia Nigd leads the table with 61 points, one more than second placed Mekelakeya who are now on 60 points.

Wolkite City won 2-0 with goals from Medin Teklu in the 19th minute and a 67th minute strike by Gadisa Mebrate
