The DStv Compact Cup got off to a flying start on Saturday, 22 January at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium, as Coastal United and Warriors secured their places in the finals of the inaugural competition set to take place at the FNB Stadium this Saturday.

The highly anticipated encounters saw United taking on Dinaledi in the afternoon fixture where they comfortably cruised into the final following a 3-0 victory courtesy of goals by Ashley du Preez, Taariq Fielies and the 15-year-old Luphumlo Sifumba who came off the bench to put the game beyond reach for Dinaledi.

The evening fixture was just as entertaining, with Warriors facing Amabutho in an evenly balanced fixture that saw Warriors narrowly edging Amabutho FC by 2-1 thanks to an unfortunate own goal by Siyathemba Sithebe in the first half as well as a well-taken finish by Monnapule Seleng in the closing stages of the game to send Warriors into the final.

The first of its kind competition continues to generate exciting conversation among South African fans, with DStv affording them the unique platform of influencing the outcome of the game with their selection of squads, starting line-ups and match day substitutions.
