Cape Town City kept up a steady stream of new signings by on Friday unveiling Fortune Makaringe as the latest additional to their squad for the new DStv Premiership campaign.

He joins on a free transfer after having come to the end of his contract at Orlando Pirates last month, and is one of at least seven new players that have been promised by chairman John Comitis.

This will be the 10th successive season in top flight football for midfielder Makaringe, who turned 31 in May.

He began his career at Maritzburg United, debuting at the beginning of the 2015/16 season and spent four terms at the club before moving to Pirates in 2019.

At the time of his move he was included in the preliminary squad for the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt but did not make the final cut.

Makaringe was with the Buccaneers for five campaigns, winning the MTN8 in 20200, although was infrequently used over the last two years. This season he temporarily stepped in during an injury crisis to play at right back for Pirates.

City have already named Hasheem Domingo from Raja Casablanca in Morocco; Kayden Francis from Chippa United and the Namibian international Prince Tjiueza, who was last at Liria Prizren in Kosovo, as their new signings.

The club have sold Brice Ambina to Valerenga in Norway and released Jo Paciencia, Thabiso Kutumela, Khanya Leshabela, Relebogile Mokhuoane and back-up goalkeeper Bongani Mpandle
