Ambassadors still on course to defend title

A penalty in each half by Nkosinathi Ononogbo was enough for defending champions Ambassadors FC to beat One Lion 2-1 in the 1st leg of the quarterfinals of the 31st edition of the Philly’s Games at the Phomolong sports ground in Thembisa.

Ama BEE, meanwhile, drew first blood in the second game of the day as they beat Rebels FC 1-0 thanks to a late strike in the second half.

In the third match, Detroyers scored on the stroke of half time to beat Boko Futhi FC 1-0.

In the final game of the day, Isithembiso took on Limpopo side Makgaola Academy.

Both teams scored in the first half and although the second half had some goal-scoring chances neither team could capitalise on their oppenents' mistakes. The game ended in a 1-1 draw with all to play for in tomorrow's 2nd leg at 10am.

Also on Thursday, Boko Futhi will try to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Destroyers FC at midday, while Rebels face Ama BEE at 2pm with the final game of the day seeing Ambassador’s taking on One Lion at 4pm.

Thursday's action will continue at the Phomolong sports ground, with the final to be hosted at the Mehlareng stadium on 2 January.
