Ambassadors knocked out as Isithembiso, One Lion draw first blood in semis
Defending champions Ambassadors FC were knocked out of the 31st edition of the Philly’s Games on Friday afternoon.
The second leg of the quarterfinal saw One Lion score three quick goals late in the second half but there was no response from the champions as their tournament run came to an end at the Phomolong Sports Grounds in Thembisa.
Ambassadors FC beat One Lion 2-1 in the first leg, but ultimately lost 4-2 on aggregate.
Isithembiso and Destroyers contested the first semifinal and kept the net busy, but Isithembiso have the advantage after recording a 2-1 victory.
The two teams will meet again on 31 December, with the final scheduled for 2 January.
In the second semifinal, which wasn’t broadcast, One Lion beat Ama BEE 3-2 to gain the upper hand. The Tender Boys will have 90 more minutes in the second leg to try and stage a comeback.
